Itinerary Summary : Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek
Day 01 : Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m)
Soon after landing at Tribhuvan International Airport, you'll be greeted by one of our staff members and immediately transferred to your respective hotel. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 02 : Kathmandu sightseeing and trek preparation
This day is scheduled for sightseeing and trek preparation. The trek leader and experts will introduce you to the trek and the essentials tips for the trek. During the day, a local guide will take you to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. These sites reflect the ancient art, architecture, and culture which have been passed from one generation to another. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 03 : Fly from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur (2,420m), Drive to Taplejung; 45 min flight & 9 hours’ drive
On the 3rd day, you’ll be flying towards Bhadrapur from Kathmandu. It is a scenic flight of 45-minutes above the diverse landscapes of Nepal. After a short stop at Bhadrapur, you’ll start your drive towards the settlement of Taplejung. The drive will take you through the lush forest of pine, rhododendron, and juniper. Crossing several farm villages, green hills, and valleys, you'll finally Taplejung. Overnight in Taplejung.
Day 04 : Taplejung to Lalikharka (2265m) 4 – 5 hours trek
From Taplejung, you’ll continue your trek towards the village of Lalikharka. Leaving Taplejung, you reach Suketar which hosts a domestic airport. Thereon, the trail begins to rise as you enter the forested trail. Passing Deurali and crossing the Deurali Pass (2600m), you gradually descend to reach Lalikharka. As the day entails short trek, you can explore the village for the rest of the day. Overnight in Lalikharka.
Day 05 : Lalikharka to Khesewa (2120m) 5 - 6 hours trek
Leaving Lalikharka behind, you’ll continue your trek towards Khesewa. The trail first passes through Phundrawa and then proceeds towards Phumphe Danda via Anpan. On the way forward, you’ll walk past several rivers and green forest which offer plenty of wildlife sightings. Following the windy path, you’ll finally reach Khesewa. Overnight in Khesewa.
Day 06 : Khesewa to Mamankhe (1785m) 5 - 6 hours trek
Early in the morning, you’ll begin your trek towards Mamankhe. Walking along with the forest of pine and rhododendron, you’ll reach Kabeli Khola. From here, the path ahead is pretty straightforward. Crossing several streams and a few suspension bridges, you’ll take a steep ascent to the top of the ridge. From the top, you begin to descend along the stone trails to arrive at Mamankhe. Overnight in Mamankhe.
Day 07 : Mamankhe to Yamphudin (2080m) 4 -5 hours
Alongside the Kabeli Khola, you’ll ascend towards the trail enveloped by the rhododendron forest. Trekking along the Kabeli River, you arrive at Thumsa. Thereon, you trek east and take the trail towards north from the Ekchana Bhanjyang. As you continue on the ascent, you reach Ghatichhinne Bhanjyang and pas Makduwa to reach Yamphudin. Overnight in Yamphudin.
Day 08 : Yamphudin to Tortong (2,995m) 7 -8 hours
From Yamphudin, you’ll continue your journey towards Tortong. As you move forward, you’ll walk past several farm villages and terraced farmlands. Along with Amji Khola flowing on the edge, you'll take a steep to ascend for some hours before reaching Lasiya Bhanjyang. Finally, enjoying the glorious view of snow-capped mountains, you’ll reach Tortong. Overnight in Tortong.
Day 09 : Tortong to Cheram (3,870m) 2 -3 hours
From Tortong, you'll start your trek towards the settlement of Cheram. After crossing the suspension bridge over Simbuwa Khola, you'll take a steep climb to the top of the ridge and reach Lalung valley. Along with a sublime view of Mt. Kanchenjunga (8586m) and Tuplung Peak (4488m) in the background, you'll cross the thick forest of rhododendron and pine. Crossing numerous tributaries of the Simbuwa River, you arrive at Cheram. Overnight in Cheram.
Day 10 : Cheram Acclimatization and Rest
Today is the much-needed rest day. After breakfast, you can take a short hike to nearby places and explore around Yalung Glacier. You'll also enjoy sublime views of Mt. Rathong (6678m) and Kabru peak (7412m). During day time, you can roam around the local market, try local foods and get familiar with the unique culture and tradition of this region. Overnight in Cheram.
Day 11 : Cheram to Ramchaur (Ramche) (4,580m) 3 – 4 hours
Walking along the Yalung Glacier, you’ll continue your trek towards Ramchaur. Enjoying a beautiful view of several snow-capped mountains, you will pass Lapsang. From here, the trail follows the Yalung Glacier for a few hours to take you to Ramchaur. The trek on this day is a short one; so, you will have plenty of time to explore the settlements at Ramche. The local monastery in the village is also a great exploration site. Overnight in Ramche.
Day 12 : Ramchaur (Ramche) to Yalung Base Camp (4500m), back to Cheram 3 – 4 hours
On the 12th day, you'll be trekking towards Yalung Base Camp at 4500m. Crossing river streams, suspension bridges, and beautiful waterfalls, you'll reach Oktang Monastery. It is one of the oldest monasteries in the region and is greatly revered by the inhabitants around this region. From here, the path ahead to base camp is pretty easy. Once at the base camp, you’ll get a sublime view of Kanchenjunga massif, Kumbakarna (7710m), Mt. Rathong (6678m), and Kabru peak (7412m). You’ll now descend downhill towards Cheram. Overnight in Cheram.
Day 13 : Cheram to Selele La (4480m) 6 -7 hours
From Cheram, you’ll start your trek towards Selele La at 4480m. The trail passes through Mirgin La Pass and proceeds towards Sinion La pass (4645m). From Sinion La Pass (4645m), the trail gets steeper as you’ll see prayer flags along the way which finally leads the way to Selele La Pass (4480m). Both the Sinion La and Selele La passes are outstanding viewpoints to observe the majesty of the Kanchenjunga and Januu Himal ranges. Overnight in Selele La Pass.
Day 14 : Selele La to Ghunsa (3,595m) 2 -3 hours
Leaving Selele La behind, you’ll trek towards Ghunsa. This route is the closest reach to Tanbharma Danda. As we move forward, you’ll walk past the forest of pine and juniper. Following the Buddhist prayer flags, you’ll finally reach Ghunsa. Ghunsa is home to numerous monasteries as the village is inhabited mostly by Tibetan descendants. Overnight in Ghunsa.
Day 15 : Ghunsa to Kambachen (4,050m) 5 -6 hours
From Ghunsa, you’ll continue your journey towards Kambachen. Once you reach Rampuk Kharka crossing suspension bridges and waterfalls, you’ll get a stunning view of Kumbakarna (7710m). The pasturelands dominate most of the trail as you reach Lakep. Thereon, you follow a river to reach Kambachen which is located in the confluence of Nupchu River and the river that originates from the Kanchenjunga Glacier. Overnight in Kambachen.
Day 16 : Kambachen to Lhonak (4,780m) 5 -6 hours
The trek to Lhonak is quite challenging. Soon after breakfast, you’ll climb uphill towards the rocky fields. Alongside the riverbank, you’ll now cross few bridges and waterfalls before reaching Ramtang monastery. Finally, descending down through sloppy landscapes and narrow stony paths, you’ll reach Lhonak. The trek on the latter stages goes along the Kanchenjunga Glacier and also crosses the Lhonak Glacier as well. Overnight in Lhonak.
Day 17 : Kanchenjunga base camp, overnight at Pangpema (5,143m) 6 -7 hours
Early in the morning, you’ll continue your trek towards Kanchenjunga Base Camp at 5143m. On the way forward, you'll walk past snow-covered terraces and large Kanchenjunga Glacier. The trail now proceeds towards the settlement of Pangpema which finally leads the way towards the base camp. Once at base camp, you’ll get a glorious view of Kumbakarna (7710m), Mt. Rathong (6678m), Kabru peak (7412m) and Mt. Kanchenjunga (8586m) itself. With a content heart, you’ll now descend back to Pangpema where you’ll stay for the night.
Day 18 : Pangpema to Lhonak (3 – 4 hours)
From Pangpema, you'll descend back to Lhonak. Following back the same trail, you'll cross small rives, sloppy landscapes and alpine forest of the pine tree. Along with a stunning view of snow-capped mountain peaks, you’ll march along the Kanchenjunga Glacier. The glacial moraines and the rock-trodden trail lead the way towards Lhonak. Overnight in Lhonak.
Day 19 : Lhonak to Ghunsa (3475m) 6 -7 hours
After breakfast, you’ll continue your descend towards Ghunsa. Alongside the riverbank, you’ll first reach the settlement of Kambachen walking past the thin forest pine and rhododendron. After a quick lunch at Kambachen, you’ll further descend towards Rampuk Kharka enjoying sublime views of the Himalayas. Overnight in Ghunsa.
Day 20 : Ghunsa to Amjilosa (2,308m) 5 -6 hours
On the 20th day, you’ll be trekking towards Amjilosa. Crossing several monasteries and temples, the trail proceeds towards Gyabla via Phale. Leaving Gyabla, your descent on a steep trail and climb to follow the Ghunsa River. Along with Chhundarangka Khola, you’ll descend gradually through the wild forest of juniper and pine. Finally, you will arrive at Ghunsa where you can explore the village surroundings. Overnight in Amjilosa.
Day 21 : Amjilosa to Chirwa (1,270m) 6 -7 hours
Early in the morning, you’ll start your trek towards Chirwa. The trail passes through the settlement of Solima and proceeds towards Sukethum. After crossing the suspension bridge over Ghunsa Khola, you'll finally reach Sukethum. On the way forward, you might encounter with endangered wildlife such as musk deer, wild lizard, leopard, etc. Following the Tamor River, you’ll finally reach your destination. Overnight in Chirwa.
Day 22 : Chirwa to Taplejung via Mitlung (921m) 7 -8 hours trek
From Chirwa, you’ll start your trek towards Taplejung. Treading through the green forested areas and passing Sinwa on the way, you'll reach a beautiful settlement of Mitlung. From Mitlung, the trail heads south you follow the Tamor River for a short while before joining the company of Haredewa River. The trail passes Panisar and continues all the way to Taplejung. Overnight in Taplejung.
Day 23 : Taplejung to Bhadrapur |9 hours’ drive
Soon after breakfast, you’ll take a long scenic drive towards Bhadrapur. Following the Tamor River, the drive begins along the curvaceous hills for a few hours to settle at the plains of Bhadrapur. The ethnicity of the inhabitants and their respective culture is clearly evident as we pass numerous villages on the way. Finally, after nine hours of drive, you’ll reach your destination. Overnight in Bhadrapur.
Day 24 : Fly to Kathmandu
Today you’ll be flying back to Kathmandu from Bhadrapur. It is a scenic flight of 45 minutes above the green hills and mountains. Once at Kathmandu, you can roam around the Thamel area, buy a souvenir, and even enjoy its nightlife. You can also visit the esteemed UNESCO world heritage sites for the rest of the day. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 25 : Final departure
Today is your last day in Nepal. We'll drop you off at Tribhuvan International Airport two hours prior to your scheduled flight. You can even share your beautiful experience with us on the way to the airport. Goodbye!
