EBC with Cho La Pass Trek is a strenuous trekking adventure that combines all the major attractions of the Everest region. The trek route takes you to the fascinating Everest Base Camp, crosses the mighty Cho La Pass, and allows you to explore the beautiful lakes of the Gokyo valley. The trek will give you the chance to see Everest (8,848 m), Nuptse (7,861 m), Lhotse (8,414 m), Ama Dablam (6,856 m), Cho Oyu (8,188 m) and many other peaks in the Khumbu region.

Getting There

The 19-day Cho la Pass Trek starts with your arrival in Kathmandu. After a short stay in the valley, you will fly to Luka, the starting point of the trek. The trail to the Everest Base Camp passes through many suspension bridges, Buddhist monasteries, Sherpa villages, glaciers, and glacial lakes. You will trek past Namche Bazaar, Phakding, Tengboche, Dingboche, and Lobuche to arrive at the Gorakshep. The trek along with these villages also provides an insight into the Buddhist culture, Sherpa traditions, and their way of life. You trek along the Khumbu Glacier from Gorakshep to the Everest Base Camp. Here, you can witness numerous mountains in the vicinity of the Mt. Everest (8848m) along with the majestic Khumbu Glacier and Icefall.

You will climb up to Kalapatthar for a better view of the Mt. Everest (8848m). The trail then crosses the Cho La Pass (5,420 m) and takes you to the Gokyo Valley. The turquoise-colored Gokyo Lakes are splendid as is the Ngozumpa Glacier, the longest glacier in the region. In Gokyo, you will climb up to Gokyo Ri (5360m) which offers panoramic views of the Everest Mountains and surrounding landscapes. During the trek, you can witness the stunning views of Mt. Everest (8,848 m), Nuptse (7,861m), Lhotse (8,414m), Ama Dablam (6,856 m), Cho Oyu (8,188 m) and many other mountains. The trek ends as you descend along Dhole and Namche Bazaar to arrive at Lukla. Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Kathmandu Arrival (1300m)

The trip begins with your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). Our company representative will welcome you at the airport. Then you will be transferred to the hotel for your overnight stay. There are no other plans besides your arrival in Kathmandu. So, you can explore the city.

Day 02: Kathmandu: a full day of sightseeing

You will meet our tour guide at the hotel premises. He will give you the highlights of the day which includes a brief history of the places you will be visiting. Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, and Boudhanath are the sites you will visit on this day which are also listed as the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These sites are the representations of culture and belief of the people in ancient Nepal.

Day 03: Fly to Lukla (2840m) and trek to Phakding (2610m) 3 hours

In the morning, you will be transferred to the airport by a private vehicle. Then, you will fly to Lukla enjoying the magnificent views of the high mountains and deep valleys. Upon arrival, you start trekking to Phakding. The trail downhill runs alongside Dudh Koshi River and crosses numerous suspension bridges. The trek is short and goes through a dusty and rocky track.

Day 04: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440m.) 6 hours

From Phakding, you follow the western bank of Dudh Koshi and gently rise through the rhododendron and magnolia forests. Eventually, you arrive at the village of Jorsalle which is the entry point of Sagarmatha National Park. Enjoying the views and bio-diversity of the national park area, you reach Namche Bazaar. The last session of the trail is a steep ascent up for around two hours. Namche is a delightful town and the main trading hub of the region.

Day 05: Rest and acclimatization day at Namche

Today is the day for rest and acclimatization. In the morning, you can hike up to the nearby viewpoint and enjoy the splendid views of the Himalayas. You can also hike to the nearby Sherpa settlements of Khumjung and Khunde. These short hikes up will help your body adjust to the depleting oxygen. You can also hike to the Everest View Hotel, famous for offering panoramic views of the Himalayas including the Mt. Everest (8848m). Later, you return to Namche and prepare for the trek.

Day 06: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3860m.) 5-6 hours

The trail descends deep into the Dudh Koshi Valley and climbs to the right bank of the Imja River to Tengboche. Along the way through rhododendron forests, the skyline will be decorated with the views of snow-capped mountains. Tengboche is a small Sherpa settlement which also hosts the Tengboche Monastery. It is the biggest monastery in the Khumbu region and grants the views of Ama Dablam (6,856 m) and the Mt. Everest (8848m).

Day 07: Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche (4410m.) 5 hours

You start today’s trek by climbing down to Debuche and pass the villages of Pangboche and Somare to reach Dingboche. The trail takes with through lush green hills and you arrive at Dingboche crossing a suspension bridge. In a clear sky, you can observe the views of Imja Tse (6189m), Lhotse (8,414m), Ama Dablam (6,856 m), Dingboche Ri (5075m), and other peaks from Dingboche.

Day 08: Acclimatization day at Dingboche

You stay in Dingboche for an additional day to get adjusted to the high altitude conditions and climate. You can walk around the village or even hike to the nearby village of Chhukung. In the evening, you can visit the Dingboche Monastery and gain some insight into the Buddhist culture that is very specific to the region.

Day 09: Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche (4910m.) 5 hours

The trek starts with an uphill climb and then the trail follows a gentle track pass shrines and small monasteries to Thukla. You can see many peaks from Thukla like Lobuche (6119m), Pumo Ri (7165m), Taboche (6367m), and Ama Dablam (6856m). After lunch at Thukla, you head along with the memorial for climbers who have lost their lives in the Himalayas. Shortly after, a climb to the top of Thukla Pass (4830m) offers mesmerizing views of the surrounding landscapes. A short walk from the pass will take you to Lobuche.

Day 10: Trek to Everest Base Camp (5364m.) via Gorakshep (5140m.) return to Gorakshep 8 hours

On the 10th day, you visit the Everest Base Camp which is the crown jewel of the Khumbu region. The trek starts on a narrow uphill path and moves towards the wide valleys. As you proceed further, the vegetation begins to disappear. You walk past the village of Gorakshep and then ascend to the Everest Base Camp. The trek takes you along wide stone paths alongside the Khumbu Glacier. Upon arrival at the camp, you will see the panoramic view of the mountains and surrounding glaciers. After exploring the base camp to your heart’s content, you return to Gorakshep.

Day 11: Hike to Kalapatthar (5545m.), trek to Dzongla (4830m.) 6 hours

In the morning, you hike to Kalapatthar to witness the sunrise over the Himalayas, often described being the best viewpoint to observe the Mt. Everest (8848m). Numerous other mountains in the Everest massif are also clearly visible from Kalapatthar. The hike is fairly steep so we will climb up at a slower pace. Afterward, you will walk back to Gorakshep for breakfast. After breakfast, you descend to a small valley and make your way to Dzongla.

Day 12: Trek from Dzongla to Dragnag (4700m.) via Cho La Pass (5420m.) 7 hours

Today is going to one of the toughest treks on the trip. Leaving Dzongla, you follow a steep uphill path to reach the Cho La Pass (5,420 m). The climb might even require the usage of mountaineering equipment like ropes and crampons. From the top of the pass, you can see Mt. Everest (8,848 m), Cho Oyu (8,188 m), Nuptse (7,861m ), Pumo Ri (7165m), and other peaks. Descending down the pass, you trek on a descending trail to arrive at Dragnag.

Day 13: Trek from Dragnag to Gokyo (4790m.) 3 hours, Visit 5th lake (4990m.) and back to Gokyo 5 hours

From Dragnag, you take an easy short walk following the Gokyo trail to Gokyo. Following the glacial routes, you trek through the Ngozumpa Glacier, also the largest glacier in the country. You continue to follow the trail and arrive at Gokyo Village. The village sits north to the Gokyo Lake, the third lake in the Gokyo Lake system. Heading further north from the village, you arrive at the fifth lake, the Ngozumpa Tsho (4980m). You will trek back to Gokyo for an overnight stay.

Day 14: Hike to Gokyo Ri (5360m) and trek down to Dhole (4110m.) 4 hours

In the morning, you hike up to Gokyo Ri (5360m). The trail crosses the stream at the north end of the village and climbs for a couple of hours. From the summit, you see the exquisite view of the Gokyo lakes, Ngozumpa Glacier, and mountains including Mt. Cho Oyu (8188m) and the Mt. Everest (8848m) among others. You return to Gokyo for breakfast and then walk south from the village of Machhermo to reach Dhole.

Day 15: Trek from Dhole to Namche Bazaar (3440m.) 5 hours

Leaving Dhole behind, you drop down to Phortse Thanga. On the way, you might come across wildlife like musk deer, pheasants, and mountain goats. You make a short steep climb to Mong La Danda and walk downhill to Sanasa. Then, you follow a gentle path downhill with a scenic view of the hills and mountains to reach Namche Bazaar.

Day 16: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2840m.) 6-7 hours

This is the final day of trekking. You descend from Namche and walk through pine and rhododendron forest. The trail crosses many bridges and takes you to Phakding. From Phakding, you walk following the Dudh Koshi River and retrace your steps back to Lukla. This long downhill trek to Lukla also marks your exit from the Sagarmatha National Park.

Day 17: Fly back to Kathmandu (1300m.)

You take an early morning flight back to Kathmandu. After checking into the hotel, you can go out for some massage therapy or any other recreational activity. You can also celebrate the successful completion of a long and hard trek in the Himalayas.

Day 18: Free day and farewell dinner

This is a free day so you can use it as per your wish. You can head out for some souvenir shopping at the local markets and street shops. Exploring the UNESCO world heritage sites is also a possible option to end the journey on a high note. In the evening, you join Nepal Alibaba Treks team for a farewell dinner.

Day 19: Departure

The 19-day long trip comes to an end. A company representative will look to your call as you prepare to head out of the country on a scheduled flight. Thank you for traveling with us. We hope to see you soon for another adventure.

    star rating  一场如期而至的旅行,一次人间天堂的盛宴 - 缘起:很偶然的一个机会,那应该是在2012年,通过电视媒体、旅游纪录片知道了尼泊尔这样一个幸福国度的存在,之所以幸福,是因为一个以佛为信仰的国度,人民的幸福感始终是最强的。其中看到了在珠峰大本营徒步路线中为旅客背负行李的背夫,那一刻甚是让我感动,同时也对大自然的鬼斧神工、美丽的尼泊尔风情所迷恋,自此以后,在我心中就一直萌生了一个想法,那就是我一定要去尼泊尔走走,去看看这个佛的国度,这个人间的天堂。
    初遇尼泊尔:带着好奇和满怀憧憬的期待,2017年5月28日下午我们抵达了尼泊尔的首都加德满都机场,之前在国内已经预定好了加德满都玛亚庄园酒店(Maya Manor Boutique Hotel Kathmandu),抵达机场后,酒店派了车去机场接迎接我们。第一次来到尼泊尔,汽车在公路上行驶着,路上汽车、行人、摩托车、牛都一起出现了公路上,这一刻,确实是让我们感到了吃惊,后来才知道,牛在尼泊尔中是神圣的,所以才会出现车和牛一起出现在公路上的情景。
    向EBC出发:天气没有让我们失望,来尼泊尔之前,常常说此时是尼泊尔的雨季,可能天气会经常下雨,但是当我们从尼泊尔首都加德满都起飞时,天气确出奇的好,第一次坐上了传说中的小飞机,那是非常的兴奋,大概经过了一段时间,飞机很快的就降落在了海拔2700米的卢卡拉机场,说到这里,不得不提一下卢卡拉机场,卢卡拉机场(lukla Airport)位于尼泊尔东部卢卡拉(Lukla)镇,位列世界十大危险机场排名第一位,冠有“世界屋脊上的跑道”称号。机场是连接加德满都和卢卡拉的唯一通道,卢卡拉(丹增-希拉里)机场机场始建于1964年,登顶珠穆朗玛峰第一人埃德蒙·希拉里(Edmund Hillary)骑士自行集资兴建的。埃德蒙·希拉里骑士为了帮助登山者更快进入珠穆朗玛峰,同时回报当地的居民,改善当地的交通状况,兴建了卢卡拉机场。第一乘坐这样的飞机,让我们感到非常的刺激。
    踏上EBC:大卫帮我们制定了详细的EBC徒步线路,包括每天的具体行程,应该注意的事项,以及沿途需要停靠休息的点,因为我们是第一次在高海拔活动,所以有必要在不同海拔高度的地方停顿修整,以让身体来逐渐适应高海拔环境。我们从卢卡拉出发,一路经过Monjo/蒙佐、Namche/南池、Tengboche/腾波切、Dingboche/丁波切、Lobuche (4940m)/罗波切、Gorak Shep/格拉克舍普、Pheriche/佩里切等地方。其中我们在Namche/南池修整了一天,第二天一早我们起的很早,看到了火烧云的壮丽景观。随着海拔的不断上升,我们一路从茂密的植被区走到荒无人烟,没有一点绿色植物的高海拔地区,我们看到了安拉普尔那雪上,见识了尼泊尔高原地区最蓝的天空,晚上也看到了最迷人的星空,这些都是我们如今生活在大成里不曾见到过了,在那里,时间仿佛静止,一切的人间糟杂似乎都已经远去,那种状态,是空灵、是自身心灵的一种净化。最终我们在大卫的带领下来到了期盼已久的珠峰大本营,第一次零距离接触到了昆布冰川,那种感受无法形容,在感叹大自然神奇的同时,也对跨越昆布冰川也被称为死亡冰川像珠峰前进的珠峰攀登者们报以最诚挚的致敬,他们勇敢的挑战珠峰,尤其是夏尔巴向导们,他们就是珠峰的开路者。从珠峰返回后,我们又经过了三天的时间下撤到卢卡拉机场,然后从卢卡拉机场乘坐飞机返回加德满都.EBC的路途虽然辛苦,但是却是我一辈子都无法忘记的,我们走了大多数人可能这一辈子都不会走的线路,无憾。
