Destination: Langtang Region

Langtang Region, incorporating the Langtang National Park, is located at the north of Kathmandu. This region is the most easily accessible trekking destination from the capital city in Nepal. Comprised of scenic mountain views, glacier sights, and culturally rich Tamang and Sherpa villages, Langtang Region is a hub for both natural and spiritual escape.

Divided into four different trekking parts: Langtang Valley, Gosainkunda Lake, Helambu Trek, and  Tamang Heritage Trail, the Langtang Region engulfs a wide range of alpine to subtropical zones, lands majorly covered by forests, and villages that offer a close-up view of lifestyles of different ethnicities, mainly of Tamang and Sherpa communities. Langtang Region holds a number of high mountain peaks including Langtang Lirung (7227m). Alongside mountains of its own, Langtang Region promises a scenic view of some of the major Himalayas starting off Makalu (8463m) to the East and Annapurna (8091m) to the west.

From the holy formation of Gosaikunda lakes to healing natural hot water springs, Langtang Region is a beautiful area filled with both religious and natural assets. Exploring the Langtang Region is exploring the diverse lifestyle and culture of Tamang and Sherpa communities. As such their religious inclinations have helped establish monasteries and gompas like Kyanjin Gompa and Shin Gompa to be of great significance.  Majority of inhabitants make living out of tourism and yak farming. Langtang Region has 70 different glaciers of different sizes and high altitude lakes including Parvatikunda, Bhairavkunda, Dudhkunda, and Gosaikunda; thus, receives its name as ‘the Valley of Glaciers’. Langtang Valley Trek, Tamang Heritage Trail, Gosainkunda Lake Trek, and Helambu Trek are the notable treks in the Langtang region.

If you are looking to get the most out of the Langtang region then October to November during autumn is the most ideal time of the year. The weather is dry which keeps the trails pleasant for trekking. The spring season is the best if you are hoping to see forests filled with wildflowers. A melting pot of immense cultural presence complemented by the natural majesty of the Himalayas and glaciers.
