Khopra Danda Trek is a recently opened exotic trekking route in the Annapurna region that explores the southern skirts of the Annapurna Massif. Concluding at Khayer Lake, the trek is famed for offering enchanting views of the Himalayas in Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Nilgiri ranges. The trek navigates around the Annapurna Conservation Area to reach two of the best viewpoints in the region: Khopra Danda and Poon hill. Khopra Danda Trek is the best route for you if you are looking for a peaceful and secluded one.

Khopra Danda begins after your arrival in Kathmandu and scenic drive to Pokhara. Your trekking starts from Ghandruk, a beautiful Gurung Village. The village is popular for its captivating setting with the Himalayan backdrop and immersing Gurung culture and practices. From here, the trekking route goes through beautiful villages of Tadapani, Dobato, and Chistibung to reach Khopra Danda.

You will spend a day in Khopra Danda. You can either explore the village or visit Khayer Lake. Situated at the elevation of 4620 m, the lake is surrounded by hills with great views of Annapurna, Nilgiri, and Dhaulagiri ranges. From Khopra, you start to descend and head towards Ghorepani via Santa village.

A short hike from Ghorepani settles at the vantage point of Poonhill with the delightful Annapurna Himalayas and Mt. Machhapuchhre (6997m) decorating the background. After a great view of sunrise from Poonhill, you will hike back to Nayapul and drive back to Pokhara. These regions are mostly inhabited by Gurung and Magar, which provides you a wonderful opportunity to learn about their lifestyle and cultures. The best months for the Khopra Danda trek are March to May and September to December when the weather is clear and dry, providing the best views of the mountains.

Detailed Itinerary

Day01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1300m)

After your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be transferred to a hotel. Following your arrival at the hotel, you can rest in your room. You can also prepare for the trek or explore the nearby locales.

Day02: Kathmandu to Pokhara Drive/ Fly (6 to 7 hours/ 30 min)

On this day, you will leave Kathmandu and head to Pokhara, the City of Lakes. You can either drive to Pokhara which takes around 9 hours or fly there which only takes around 30 minutes. If you choose to fly to Pokhara, you will have ample time to roam around Pokhara. You can go boating in Phewa Lake or visit other destinations in the city. Mahendra Cave, Davis Falls, and World Peace Pagoda are ideal sites for the tour.

Day03: Drive from Pokhara to Nayapul (1070m/1 hr and 30 min) and trek to Ghandruk (1940 m/3 hours)

To reach Ghandruk you will first drive to Nayapul from Pokhara. The trail to Ghandruk passes alongside Modi River through beautiful rice terraces and stunning waterfalls. The trail is smooth initially and ascends rather steeply as you head to Kimche. Thereon, you continue on the forested trail to arrive at Ghandruk. Here, you can explore the unique lifestyle of Gurung people whilst enjoying the stunning views of Annapurna (8091m) and Machhapuchhre (6993m).

Day04: Ghandruk to Tadapani (2710m/3 hours)

After enjoying striking views of the sunrise over the Himalayas in Annapurna range, you will start your trek to Tadapani. Along the trail, you will pass through a dense rhododendron forest inhibited by Langur and various birds. Tadapani offers a stunning panoramic view of Annapurna range and Machhapuchhre (6993m). This Gurung Village is an excellent place to view sunrise and sunset over these mountains.

Day05: Tadapani to Dobato (3350m/5 hours)

The trail uphill to Dobato mostly goes through dense rhododendron forest. Along the path, you will come across numerous pastures and viewpoints where you can rest. Along the way, you can also enjoy the stunning panoramic views of Hiunchuli (6441m), Machhapuchhre (6993m), Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. If you want to get a closer and clear view of these mountains then you can visit Muldai viewpoint which is about half an hour climb from Dobato.

Day06: Dobato to Upper Chistibung (2975m/4 hours)

From Dobato, you ascend to Upper Chistibung through the dense rhododendron forest. The trail goes uphill and downhill quite often and follows the adventurous trail through the Annapurna Conservation Area. Once in Chistibung, the views of Annapurna and Nilgiri ranges allow you to enjoy a blissful moment in the company of the Himalayas. You will also be able to witness the rural life of Nepalese people here and stay overnight in a community lodge.

Day07: Upper Chistibung to Khopra Ridge (3660m/4 hours)

After breakfast, you will begin the trek to Khopra Ridge. Trekking through the alpine meadows and forested trails, you head to Khopra Ridge. Along the way, you will witness Himalayan Thar, yak, and some Himalayan birds like Danphe and Monal. The trek is an easy one, even if it is mostly uphill. The close-up views of Annapurna South (7219m), Nilgiri (7061m), and Dhaulagiri (8167m) from the vantage point is quite enchanting.

Day08: Khopra Rest Day

After a breath-taking view of the sunrise, you can either stay in Khopra and rest or hike up to Khayer Lake. This holy lake situated in the foothills of Annapurna South (7219m), is also famous for offering viewpoints which grant sublime sceneries of the surrounding landscapes. If you decide to rest in Khopra, you can spend the day exploring the lifestyle and culture of the locals.

Day09: Khopra Danda to Swanta (2214m/6 hours)

After early morning breakfast, you will descend from Khopra Danda to Swanta village. On the way, you will pass dense forest of pine, oak, and rhododendron trees. The trails to Swanta are inhabited by a variety of wildlife and birds to the terraced fields and traditional houses. Passing Dikure and a series of ancient ruins, the trail reaches Chistibang and descends to Swanta.

Day10: Swanta to Ghorepani (2880m/6 hours)

Today, you will trek downhill to Ghorepani, a beautiful village mostly inhabited by Gurung. You walk through dense rhododendron forest, terraced fields, and beautiful villages. The rhododendron forest en route to Ghorepani is said to one of the biggest most beautiful in the region. The trek also offers stunning views of the Annapurna range. In Ghorepani, you can explore the village and learn about their lifestyle and culture whilst enjoying the beauty of the Himalayas.

Day11: Morning Hike to Poon Hill (3210m/1 hour) and drive back to Pokhara (4 hours and 30 min)

The day begins with an early morning hike to Poon Hill. The vantage point offers spectacular views of Annapurna South (7219m), Annapurna I (8091m), Lamjung Himal (6983m), Machhapuchhre (6993m), Nilgiri (7061m), and Gangapurna (7454m). After witnessing the panorama of the mountains, you will descend to Nayapul, From Nayapul, you drive back to Pokhara where you can do souvenir shopping or exploration around the city.

Day12: Back to Kathmandu Fly / Drive (30min/7hours)

Your trip has come to an end. Today you will return back to back to Kathmandu with new experiences and memories that last a lifetime. You can either fly or drive back to Kathmandu. Both options will give you enough opportunity to rest after your many days of trekking.

    star rating  一场如期而至的旅行,一次人间天堂的盛宴 - 缘起:很偶然的一个机会,那应该是在2012年,通过电视媒体、旅游纪录片知道了尼泊尔这样一个幸福国度的存在,之所以幸福,是因为一个以佛为信仰的国度,人民的幸福感始终是最强的。其中看到了在珠峰大本营徒步路线中为旅客背负行李的背夫,那一刻甚是让我感动,同时也对大自然的鬼斧神工、美丽的尼泊尔风情所迷恋,自此以后,在我心中就一直萌生了一个想法,那就是我一定要去尼泊尔走走,去看看这个佛的国度,这个人间的天堂。
    计划:一转眼到了2017年,一个不经意的午后,大家聊着去哪玩的时候,我突然想起了五年前自己的那个想法,就是去尼泊尔徒步。这个想法一经提出,大家都非常感兴趣,于是我们将去尼泊尔的计划提上日程,开始反复讨论走什么路线,什么时候去,攻略怎样做?等等,诸如此类的问题,经过大半个月的讨论,我们一致决定走最负盛名的EBC珠峰大本营徒步路线。
    出发:对于这次出行,我们其实并没有什么经验,连低海拔地区的徒步经验都没有,更何况我们要去尼泊尔走EBC徒步路线,我们在相关论坛上发布了我们的计划之后,很多前辈都劝我们不要冒险,EBC虽然美丽,但是也充满了危险,于是我们很纠结,要不要去?向导怎么找?但对尼泊尔的向往,始终没有阻止我们的脚步,2017年5月28日,我们搭乘南方航空广州至加德满都的直飞航班出发了。
    初遇尼泊尔:带着好奇和满怀憧憬的期待,2017年5月28日下午我们抵达了尼泊尔的首都加德满都机场,之前在国内已经预定好了加德满都玛亚庄园酒店(Maya Manor Boutique Hotel Kathmandu),抵达机场后,酒店派了车去机场接迎接我们。第一次来到尼泊尔,汽车在公路上行驶着,路上汽车、行人、摩托车、牛都一起出现了公路上,这一刻,确实是让我们感到了吃惊,后来才知道,牛在尼泊尔中是神圣的,所以才会出现车和牛一起出现在公路上的情景。
    马亚酒店的初识:抵达酒店,我们询问了酒店的工作人员关于EBC旅行向导的一些事情,因为存在语言的差异,沟通起来稍有些不便,幸运的是,酒店的工作人员告诉我们,有一位中国女孩现在就在酒店工作,我们立即联系了她,她就是后来我们新认识的来自中国杭州的廉同学,廉同学一直在尼泊尔从事汉语教学的工作,帮助更多希望学习中文的尼泊尔人学习汉语。和廉同学联系上了之后,她正式像我们推荐了大卫(David)以及他的伙伴阿龙,很快我们和大卫还有阿龙在马亚酒店见面了,大卫的中文讲的很好,初次见面,我们就被大卫的热情所感动了,他非常细心的给我们介绍在尼泊尔旅行以及EBC徒步线路的一些事项,我们和大卫一起在马亚酒店吃了晚餐,制定好行程之后,我们将在第二天也就是5月29日正式从加德满都机场飞往EBC徒步的起点卢卡拉机场。
    向EBC出发:天气没有让我们失望,来尼泊尔之前,常常说此时是尼泊尔的雨季,可能天气会经常下雨,但是当我们从尼泊尔首都加德满都起飞时,天气确出奇的好,第一次坐上了传说中的小飞机,那是非常的兴奋,大概经过了一段时间,飞机很快的就降落在了海拔2700米的卢卡拉机场,说到这里,不得不提一下卢卡拉机场,卢卡拉机场(lukla Airport)位于尼泊尔东部卢卡拉(Lukla)镇,位列世界十大危险机场排名第一位,冠有“世界屋脊上的跑道”称号。机场是连接加德满都和卢卡拉的唯一通道,卢卡拉(丹增-希拉里)机场机场始建于1964年,登顶珠穆朗玛峰第一人埃德蒙·希拉里(Edmund Hillary)骑士自行集资兴建的。埃德蒙·希拉里骑士为了帮助登山者更快进入珠穆朗玛峰,同时回报当地的居民,改善当地的交通状况,兴建了卢卡拉机场。第一乘坐这样的飞机,让我们感到非常的刺激。
    踏上EBC:大卫帮我们制定了详细的EBC徒步线路,包括每天的具体行程,应该注意的事项,以及沿途需要停靠休息的点,因为我们是第一次在高海拔活动,所以有必要在不同海拔高度的地方停顿修整,以让身体来逐渐适应高海拔环境。我们从卢卡拉出发,一路经过Monjo/蒙佐、Namche/南池、Tengboche/腾波切、Dingboche/丁波切、Lobuche (4940m)/罗波切、Gorak Shep/格拉克舍普、Pheriche/佩里切等地方。其中我们在Namche/南池修整了一天,第二天一早我们起的很早,看到了火烧云的壮丽景观。随着海拔的不断上升,我们一路从茂密的植被区走到荒无人烟,没有一点绿色植物的高海拔地区,我们看到了安拉普尔那雪上,见识了尼泊尔高原地区最蓝的天空,晚上也看到了最迷人的星空,这些都是我们如今生活在大成里不曾见到过了,在那里,时间仿佛静止,一切的人间糟杂似乎都已经远去,那种状态,是空灵、是自身心灵的一种净化。最终我们在大卫的带领下来到了期盼已久的珠峰大本营,第一次零距离接触到了昆布冰川,那种感受无法形容,在感叹大自然神奇的同时,也对跨越昆布冰川也被称为死亡冰川像珠峰前进的珠峰攀登者们报以最诚挚的致敬,他们勇敢的挑战珠峰,尤其是夏尔巴向导们,他们就是珠峰的开路者。从珠峰返回后,我们又经过了三天的时间下撤到卢卡拉机场,然后从卢卡拉机场乘坐飞机返回加德满都.EBC的路途虽然辛苦,但是却是我一辈子都无法忘记的,我们走了大多数人可能这一辈子都不会走的线路,无憾。
