Salleri To Everest Base Camp Trek Overview

Salleri Everest Base Camp is an alternative access to the Everest region with the same route. Salleri lies in eastern Nepal, which is also the administrative center for the Everest region. The direct drive from Kathmandu to Salleri takes about 10 to 11 hours. And the trek starts from Salleri and ends at the Lukla. This trek offers the opportunity to explore the famous villages of Solukhumbu. This trek also combines the Phaplu Everest Base Camp trek. This trek is popular for the less tourist traffic and high stunning views of the Everest region.

This trek provides more acclimatization period than Lukla to EBC, which helps to minimize the chance of altitude sickness. Similarly, the drive from Kathmandu to Salleri offers an amazing landscape of mountains and hills. The long drive from Kathmandu to Salleri is done through the newly constructed highway that is BP highway that adjoins the road across the Sunkoshi river. During the trek, you will have incredible views of the lush forests, stunning Sunkoshi river valleys, gorges, and terraced fields.

You can also have a chance to explore the villages you pass through during the trek. The families of these villages grow their livestock and vegetables and run the teahouses, which help to be independent of the outside world. The route of this trek is less crowded so the trail is quiet and peaceful and you get full opportunity to admire the beauty of the trail. The trek from Salleri to Everest Base Camp offers the new and fresh route to be explored. The trek will lead you to the woods of pine and oak and beautiful settlement.

Salleri To Everest Base Camp Trek Difficulty

Salleri to EBC trek is considered as the physically challenging trek due to AMS, however, trek from Salleri will acclimatize the body gradually. Though trekking above 5000m is comparatively more difficult than low altitude treks. The difficulty of trek also depends upon the various factors like weather, temperature, fitness level, season of trekking, walking hours per day and many more. The trail will take you through a challenging bus drive. The route of the trek is well developed and well facilitated which helps to avoid the level of risk. Though the trail section between Nunthala and Chheplung is a bit rough and not maintained which could cause some stress on your knees. The ultimate achievement of the trek always helps to forget any difficulty and pain.

Food and Accommodation during the trek

During our trek, we will be going to stay at the tea houses/ local lodges/ homestays, which are well maintained. You will feel close and connected with the friendly people of the lodge who are mostly local Sherpas during your stay. The smiley face and the hard work of the people help you to understand lifestyle. During the stay, you can get the great facilities and warm hospitality. Talking about the facilities you will get a hot shower, WiFi and well maintained toilet. In this trek, all accommodation are on twin sharing basis but you can also get single rooms by paying a single supplement. Similarly, you will get a delicious and hygienic food. Mostly you get a Nepali foods but you can also get international cuisine like Tibetan, Indian and Continental. However, in Kathmandu you can have anything you want. You can easily get the room in another season however during the peak season that is October, you need to book the lodging in advance so that you won’t have any problems.

Permits for trek for Salleri to EBC

You don’t have to worry about the permits if you are trekking with the help of travel agencies as they will arrange all the permits for you but if you are trekking by yourself you need to arrange the permits. In the Everest region, you don’t have to take a TIMS (Trekkers Information Management Systems) card after 1st October 2018. The permits that you need to obtain for Salleri to Everest Base Camp are mentioned below:

Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit

This is the new permit which was brought after a big controversy and dispute. This permit cannot be obtained from do this trek, you can obtain this permit from Monjo. For any foreigner, the permit costs Rs 2000 which the Local government of Khumbu collects

Sagarmatha National Park permit

Salleri to EBC takes you from Sagarmatha National Park which is listed as a world heritage by UNESCO, so you need to take a permit to trek from the National park. This permit costs Rs 3000 per person. You can also get this permit from Monjo.

Required documents

For both Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance permit and Sagarmatha National Park permit you will need details of your passport only. You can only pay the permit fees from local currency.

What to pack for trek?

The well packing of clothing, equipment and gears help to make the trek more easier. Similarly, unnecessary packing of things could put you in trouble. Therefore for the good packing you need to include the following things:

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

You will be greeted at the Tribhuvan International Airport and transferred to a hotel in Thamel, where you will enjoy your delicious welcome dinner. Overnight at the hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Drive to Salleri (2390m)

Guide and porter arrive in your hotel and we will drive to Salleri by local bus or private vehicle. It takes around 8/9 hours.

Day 03: Salleri to Nunthala (2,330m)

This is the day you start to hike. After morning breakfast at Salleri, we start our journey to Nunthala. During the journey, we have a chance to watch beautiful mountains scenery and monastery.

Day 04: Nunthala to Bupsadanda (2300m)

After having breakfast at Nunthala we start trek to Bupsadanta. This is one of the amazing journeys because of we walk through the Dudhkoshi River Bridge and forests.

Day 05: Bupsadanda to Surkhe (2,290m)

Our trek starts from Bupsadanda and leads to Bhumsing village and reach Surkhe.

Day 06: Surkhe to Phakding (2,610m)

On the way to Phakding, you will witness various animals like mules and yaks along with the breath-taking view of the Khumbu Himalayas. You will also pass by some beautiful buildings, streams, hills, monasteries and prayer stones as you climb to Phakding. After reaching Phakding village, you can go for a short hike to Thaktul Monastery. Overnight in Phakding.

Day 07: Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,430m)

After the early morning breakfast, you will start the trek to Namche Bazaar alongside Dudh Koshi River. On the way, you will come across numerous suspension bridges and Himalayan forests filled with rhododendrons, pines, and magnolias to officially enter Sagarmatha National Park premises. After reaching Namche Bazaar, you will see mesmerizing views of the mighty Everest (8848m) along with other mountains like Lhotse (8516m) and Thamserku (6623m).

Day 08: Acclimatization in Namche Bazaar (3790m)

There is no trek today for altitude acclimatization. Instead, you will explore the beautiful town of Namche Bazaar situated amid various breath-taking mountains and mostly dominated by the Sherpa locals. You will also visit the museums, stupas, and monasteries in and around Namche Bazaar and explore the lifestyle and culture of Sherpa people. Alternatively, you can hike up to Everest View Hotel (3880m), one of the highest hotels in the world, for a grandiose view of Mt Everest (8848m). Overnight in Namche Bazaar.

Day 09: Namche Bazaar to Tyangboche (3,867m)

The trek starts with a pleasant walk through the forest with majestic views of mountains until Khyangjuma. The trail then goes downhill towards Phunki Thank and later climbs uphill to reach Tengboche. The Imja River keeps us company for most parts as we cross numerous streams and rivers to reach Tengboche. Here, you can visit the Tengboche monastery which is the largest in the Khumbu region. Overnight in Tengboche.

Day 10: Tyangboche to Dingboche (4,300m)

You start today’s trek by climbing down to Debuche and pass the villages of Pangboche and Somare to reach Dingboche. The trail takes with through lush green hills and you arrive at Dingboche crossing a suspension bridge. In a clear sky, you can observe the views of Imja Tse (6189m), Lhotse (8,414m), Ama Dablam (6,856 m), Dingboche Ri (5075m), and other peaks from Dingboche.

Day 11: Dingboche to Lobuche (4,930m)

The trek starts with an uphill climb and then the trail follows a gentle track pass shrines and small monasteries to Thukla. You can see many peaks from Thukla like Lobuche (6119m), Pumo Ri (7165m), Taboche (6367m), and Ama Dablam (6856m). After lunch at Thukla, you head along with the memorial for climbers who have lost their lives in the Himalayas. Shortly after, a climb to the top of Thukla Pass (4830m) offers mesmerizing views of the surrounding landscapes. A short walk from the pass will take you to Lobuche.

Day 12: Lobuche to Kalapatthar (5,545m) – Gorakshep (5,140m)

The day begins early as we make our way towards Kalapatthar. The views of the Himalayas from Kalapatthar is the highlight of the trip and not one to be missed. Gradually ascending through the rocky Himalayan landscape, the journey takes us through a dry lake before beginning the ascent to the viewpoint. The mesmerizing Himalayan panorama accommodating some of the world’s tallest Himalayas are put on display and safe to say it doesn’t disappoint. The views of sunset are something else altogether as the light slowly fades out until just the summit of Mt. Everest (8,848m) is colored golden. Overnight in Gorakshep.

Day 13: Gorakshep to Everest Base Camp (5,364m) – Lobuche (4,920m)

Today, we head over to Everest Base Camp another one of the major events of our entire trip. Trekking on the glacial moraines, the trail steadily climbs towards the base camp. After a couple of hours of climbing, the trail finally leaves us at the foot of the world’s tallest mountain. Here, we explore the base cap and marvel at the views of the Khumbu Glacier, Icefall, and numerous mountains neighboring the Mt. Everest (8848m). After enjoying the thrill and adventure the Himalayas bring we make our way back to Lobuche. Overnight in Lobuche.

Day 14: Lobuche to Pangboche (3,860m)

Today we head down towards Pangboche. By crossing the bridge at Dughla, the journey heads through the Khumbu valley. Crossing the vibrant hamlet of Pheriche after a brief rest of the trail the journey comes to its closing steps reaching Pangboche.

Day 15: Pangboche to Monjo (2,835m)

We cross the river before beginning our uphill climb through the lush green forests and takes us back to the hamlet of Tengboche before descending back heading towards Namche. we descend through the lovely Sagarmatha National Park to reach Monjo.

Day 16: Monjo to Lukla (2,840m)

Today we head back towards Lukla. The trek will easy because we walk descending through hilly ridges surrounded by lush green forests. Crossing the hamlets of Bengkar, Phakding, and Chhuthawa in quick succession, we reach our final ascend leading to Lukla.

Day 17: Lukla to Kathmandu (1,300m)

The weather in Lukla can be unpredictable at times so you take the first flight in the morning and fly back to Kathmandu. In Kathmandu, you will have plenty of spare time so you can head out and explore the city or get some massages if your joints are still aching. Souvenir shopping and sightseeing are also other possible options.

Day 18: Departure

The 18days long trip comes to an end. A ]representative from the company will look to your call as you prepare to head out of the country on a scheduled flight. Thank you for traveling with us. We hope to see you soon for another adventure.

    star rating  一场如期而至的旅行,一次人间天堂的盛宴 - 缘起:很偶然的一个机会,那应该是在2012年,通过电视媒体、旅游纪录片知道了尼泊尔这样一个幸福国度的存在,之所以幸福,是因为一个以佛为信仰的国度,人民的幸福感始终是最强的。其中看到了在珠峰大本营徒步路线中为旅客背负行李的背夫,那一刻甚是让我感动,同时也对大自然的鬼斧神工、美丽的尼泊尔风情所迷恋,自此以后,在我心中就一直萌生了一个想法,那就是我一定要去尼泊尔走走,去看看这个佛的国度,这个人间的天堂。
    初遇尼泊尔:带着好奇和满怀憧憬的期待,2017年5月28日下午我们抵达了尼泊尔的首都加德满都机场,之前在国内已经预定好了加德满都玛亚庄园酒店(Maya Manor Boutique Hotel Kathmandu),抵达机场后,酒店派了车去机场接迎接我们。第一次来到尼泊尔,汽车在公路上行驶着,路上汽车、行人、摩托车、牛都一起出现了公路上,这一刻,确实是让我们感到了吃惊,后来才知道,牛在尼泊尔中是神圣的,所以才会出现车和牛一起出现在公路上的情景。
    向EBC出发:天气没有让我们失望,来尼泊尔之前,常常说此时是尼泊尔的雨季,可能天气会经常下雨,但是当我们从尼泊尔首都加德满都起飞时,天气确出奇的好,第一次坐上了传说中的小飞机,那是非常的兴奋,大概经过了一段时间,飞机很快的就降落在了海拔2700米的卢卡拉机场,说到这里,不得不提一下卢卡拉机场,卢卡拉机场(lukla Airport)位于尼泊尔东部卢卡拉(Lukla)镇,位列世界十大危险机场排名第一位,冠有“世界屋脊上的跑道”称号。机场是连接加德满都和卢卡拉的唯一通道,卢卡拉(丹增-希拉里)机场机场始建于1964年,登顶珠穆朗玛峰第一人埃德蒙·希拉里(Edmund Hillary)骑士自行集资兴建的。埃德蒙·希拉里骑士为了帮助登山者更快进入珠穆朗玛峰,同时回报当地的居民,改善当地的交通状况,兴建了卢卡拉机场。第一乘坐这样的飞机,让我们感到非常的刺激。
    踏上EBC:大卫帮我们制定了详细的EBC徒步线路,包括每天的具体行程,应该注意的事项,以及沿途需要停靠休息的点,因为我们是第一次在高海拔活动,所以有必要在不同海拔高度的地方停顿修整,以让身体来逐渐适应高海拔环境。我们从卢卡拉出发,一路经过Monjo/蒙佐、Namche/南池、Tengboche/腾波切、Dingboche/丁波切、Lobuche (4940m)/罗波切、Gorak Shep/格拉克舍普、Pheriche/佩里切等地方。其中我们在Namche/南池修整了一天,第二天一早我们起的很早,看到了火烧云的壮丽景观。随着海拔的不断上升,我们一路从茂密的植被区走到荒无人烟,没有一点绿色植物的高海拔地区,我们看到了安拉普尔那雪上,见识了尼泊尔高原地区最蓝的天空,晚上也看到了最迷人的星空,这些都是我们如今生活在大成里不曾见到过了,在那里,时间仿佛静止,一切的人间糟杂似乎都已经远去,那种状态,是空灵、是自身心灵的一种净化。最终我们在大卫的带领下来到了期盼已久的珠峰大本营,第一次零距离接触到了昆布冰川,那种感受无法形容,在感叹大自然神奇的同时,也对跨越昆布冰川也被称为死亡冰川像珠峰前进的珠峰攀登者们报以最诚挚的致敬,他们勇敢的挑战珠峰,尤其是夏尔巴向导们,他们就是珠峰的开路者。从珠峰返回后,我们又经过了三天的时间下撤到卢卡拉机场,然后从卢卡拉机场乘坐飞机返回加德满都.EBC的路途虽然辛苦,但是却是我一辈子都无法忘记的,我们走了大多数人可能这一辈子都不会走的线路,无憾。
