Getting There

Your arrival in Kathmandu is marked by an official procedure to obtain the restricted area permit for Upper Mustang. A scenic drive from Kathmandu through the town of Muglin and Dumre takes you to the beautiful lakeside city of Pokhara. From Pokhara, you take a short flight to Jomsom followed by a trek to Kagbeni with the company of Annapurna range and Nilgiri (7061m). Thereon, you enter the Upper Mustang region and begin traversing along with the arid lands. Similarly, crossing the settlements such as Chele, Shyangbochen, and Dhakmar, you reach Lo Manthang, the ancient capital of Mustang. At Lo Manthang, you enjoy the celebration of the Tiji Festival for three days. As you participate in the festival, the first day includes dances depicting the evil deeds of the demons. The second day also begins with various rituals and dances. It tells the story of the birth of Dorje Jono, an ancient hero who banished evil from Earth. On the final day, the monks and their rituals celebrate the victory of Dorje Jono. The rituals are also said to spread thoughts of peace and happiness worldwide. At the end of the celebration, following the same trail, you trek back to Jomsom and take a flight to Pokhara. Upper Mustang lies in the rain shadow region of the Dhaulagiri massif. Therefore, the trek can be done throughout the year.

Detailed Itinerary

Day01: Arrival in Kathmandu

Today, you will land at Tribhuvan International Airport. After you arrival, one of our staff member will receive you and transfer you to your respective hotel. Later, you can explore around the city on your own. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

Day02: Restricted Area Permit procedure

Travelers will require a special restricted permit to enter Mustang region. You will procure the necessary documents and, if time permits, you can also participate in a sightseeing tour around the Kathmandu Valley. With the company of a local guide, you can explore the sites enlisted as UNESCO World Heritage Sites including Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. Enjoy traditional Nepali dishes or observe cultural dances as you conclude an eventful day. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

Day03: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (820m) by tourist bus

Starting your drive from Kathmandu, you continue your journey along with a stunning view of green hills and small settlements. Once at Muglin, you stop for a quick lunch. Along the way, Trishuli River will keep you company. Crossing small town of Dumre, you finally reach Pokhara from where you get a distant view of Annapurna ranges. The city also offers grand view of the Mt. Machhapuchhre (6997m) and offers plenty of sites to explore. Overnight stay in Pokhara.

Day04: Fly from Pokhara to Jomsom (2720m) and trek to Kagbeni 2810m

Today, you take a flight to Jomsom from Pokhara. The scenic flight offers scenic views of the green hills and snow-capped mountains. Once at Jomsom, our real trek begins as we continue our walk along the Kali Gandaki River to reach a flat valley. Along the way, you can relish majestic views of Annapurna and Nilgiri ranges. Crossing several small hamlets and rugged paths, you reach Kagbeni. Overnight stay in Kagbeni.

Day05: Trek from Kagbeni to Chele (3050m)

Alongside the bank of Kali Gandaki River, you officially enter Upper Mustang and trek along the barren landscapes. After a steep climb to the top of the ridge, you reach Tangbe. From here, you march towards the settlement of Chhuksang leaving Kali Gandaki Valley behind. Enjoying the Tibetan traditions along small settlements on the trek, you reach the settlement of Chele. Overnight stay in Chele.

Day06: Trek from Chele to Shyangbochen (3800m) via Chungsi Cave

From Chele, you continue your trek towards Shyangbochen. The trail inclines as you cross the Taklam La Pass (3624m) and Dajori La Pass (3735m). Upon reaching Samar village, you stop for a quick photographs along with a stunning view of Annapurna range at the background. Finally, crossing Chungsi Cave, you ascend towards the settlement of Shyangbochen. Overnight stay at the guesthouse in Shyangbochen.

Day07: Trek from Shyangbochen to Dhakmar (3820m)

On the 7th day, you march towards Dhakmar. In the early first hour, you cross the Yamta and Tama rivers to reach Geling. From here, you take a steep ascent to the top of the ridge which takes you to Nyi La Pass at 4010m. Once at the top, you get a breathtaking view of Himalayas and surroundings. Following a narrow stony paths, you now march towards the beautiful settlement of Dhakmar. Overnight stay in Dhakmar.

Day08: Trek from Dhakmar to Lo Manthang (3810m) via Ghar Gompa

Leaving Dhakmar behind, you continue your journey walking past the several Tibetan villages. Along the way, Chortens and Mani walls will offer interesting detours and explorations. A quick descent takes you to Ghar Gompa which is the oldest mastery in the entire Upper Mustang region. The monastery is believed to have scriptures and artifacts belonging to the times of the Padmasanbhava. From Ghar Gompa, you trek further north, you reach Lo Manthang. Overnight stay in Lo Manthang.

Day09: Tiji Festival in Lo Manthang

The first day of Tiji festival starts with lots of celebration and excitement. An ancient dance called “Tsa Chham” is performed on the first day. Horse racing, a giant tug of war along with sacred chanting of Lamas, and masked dances are the major attractions on the first day of the festival. This ancient dance represents the evil doings of the demons that thrived in the absence of good. You also witness Tibetan women in their clothes, beautiful Thangka decorations, and monks in their robes. Overnight stay in Lo Manthang

Day10: Tiji Festival in Lo Manthang

On the second day, “Nga Chham” is performed which means the birth of Dorje Jono, a mythical hero who defeated the demons. A traditional dance of Tibetan Lamas is performed. It is believed that such dance will chase the evil spirits away from the world. The rituals begin from the ancient royal palace and head on o the public sphere where all the onlookers can witness the event. The dancers slash swords and represent the battle between good and evil. After the ceremony for the day ends, you can explore around the Lo Manthang and witness the lifestyle of the residents. Overnight stay in Lo Manthang.

Day11: Tiji Festival in Lo Manthang

Today is the last day of Tiji Festival. On the final day, the ceremonial destruction of evil is done by setting out demons in old tiger skin and attacking them with bow and arrow. It is believed that after the completion of this ceremony, the demons will return back to Buddha’s realm. This concludes the festival and the rituals practiced on the span of three days are said to spread peace and happiness around the world. You can also visit the Namgyal Gompa, a religious symbol of Lo Manthang. Overnight stay in Lo Manthang.

Day12: Trek from Lo Manthang to Ghami (3520m)

Leaving Lo Manthang behind, you start your trek towards Ghami. Following the barren landscapes, you ascend through the trading route. After a steep climb to the top of the ridge, you reach Chogo La Pass at 4280m. From here, crossing small streams, waterfalls and arid landscapes, you reach plain valley near Ghar Gompa which finally leads the way towards the settlement of Ghami. Overnight stay in Ghami.

Day13: Trek from Ghami to Samar (3660m)

Early in the morning, you start your trek with a gentle climb to the top of the ridge and finally reach Nyi La at 4010m. Along the way, you walk past several Tibetan villages and farmlands enjoying glorious views of snow-capped mountains and barren hills. After a short break at Shyangbochen, you make a quick descent towards the beautiful village of Samar. Overnight stay in Samar.

Day14: Trek from Samar to Kagbeni (2810m)

From Samar, you first descend to the village of Chele. Alongside the bank of Kali Gandaki River, you trek through the dry landscapes before reaching Chhusang. As the Tibetan monasteries wave goodbye, you head to Tangbe. This Gurung Village welcomes you with a peculiar display of black, white, and red chortens. Finally, crossing the settlement of Tirigaon, you reach Kagbeni. Overnight stay in Kagbeni.

Day15: Trek from Kagbeni to Jomsom (2720m)

Soon after breakfast, you immediately start your trek towards Jomsom. Today you mostly trek through dry landscapes. The trail gives you the pleasure of experiencing the greenery and sublime mountain views of this region. Once you reach Ekle Bhatti, you slowly descend along the rusty and zigzag paths. Finally, a beautiful settlement of Jomsom welcomes you with open arms. The windy town is also famous for offering apple products and apple-derived alcohol ‘Marpha’ to its visitors. Overnight stay in Jomsom.

Day16: Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara (820m)

From Jomsom, you take a short flight to Pokhara. It is a scenic flight above the snow-capped mountains and green hills. Once at Pokhara, you can spend the day visiting Mahendra Cave, Davis Falls, and lake side. In the evening, you can also enjoy a sublime view of Mt. Machhapuchhre (6997m) and Annapurna I (8091m) as you boat on the Phewa Lake. Night life is another main attraction of Pokhara. Overnight stay in Pokhara.

Day17: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu by tourist bus

Leaving beautiful lakeside city of Pokhara, you take a drive back to Kathmandu. Passing through the small town of Dumre and Muglin, the drive will take you through the green hills and valleys along with Trishuli River. Once at Naubise, you stop for a quick lunch. From here, you head to Thankot which finally leads the way into Kathmandu. Once at the capital, you can roam around Thamel area and buy souvenirs. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

Day18: Departure from Kathmandu

Today is your final day. We’ll drop you off two hours prior to your scheduled flight. You can even share your experience with us on the way to airport. Goodbye!

  • star rating  尼泊尔5天小trip - 我和朋友的飞机是晚上到达加德满都机场。出了机场很顺利地就找到了接机的小伙伴,check in入住都十分顺利,我们的行程是第二天马上去纳加阔特看日出,所以当时就只定了一天的酒店,但是由于前一天有点累,第二天两个人居然睡过头了,但是酒店人员人很好,提醒了我们退房之后,还给了我们足够的时间收拾东西才退房。然后就直接是司机带我们去了纳加阔特。路上时间稍微有点久,但司机人很好,风景也不错,到了新酒店check in,刚刚好是看日落的时间。酒店老板很热情的招呼我们,还特意给我们说了很多明天看日出的小tips,然后我们就选了个位子坐下,喝喝酒,聊聊天,吹吹风,非常舒服。第二天设了闹钟,早早起来看日出,景色真的是太让人震撼,第一次有那种开阔的感觉。拍了很多很美的照片,然后就吃了早餐出发去博卡拉了。我们没有去trekking,因为时间有限,但在博卡拉就是各种悠闲散漫地生活,完全放空,什么都不想,望着鱼尾峰发呆,滑翔伞,在费瓦湖上泛舟,吃吃喝喝,泡泡吧,感受一下风土人情,还看到了一些当地的传统手工艺。虽然没能去trekking有点遗憾,但也给自己留一个再回去一次的理由。整个行程基本上只要说出自己的想法就都会被满足,很舒心,不用费心神,真的很放松,可以从忙忙碌碌的生活中抽身而出,过一种不一样的生活!

    star rating  一场如期而至的旅行,一次人间天堂的盛宴 - 缘起:很偶然的一个机会,那应该是在2012年,通过电视媒体、旅游纪录片知道了尼泊尔这样一个幸福国度的存在,之所以幸福,是因为一个以佛为信仰的国度,人民的幸福感始终是最强的。其中看到了在珠峰大本营徒步路线中为旅客背负行李的背夫,那一刻甚是让我感动,同时也对大自然的鬼斧神工、美丽的尼泊尔风情所迷恋,自此以后,在我心中就一直萌生了一个想法,那就是我一定要去尼泊尔走走,去看看这个佛的国度,这个人间的天堂。
    计划:一转眼到了2017年,一个不经意的午后,大家聊着去哪玩的时候,我突然想起了五年前自己的那个想法,就是去尼泊尔徒步。这个想法一经提出,大家都非常感兴趣,于是我们将去尼泊尔的计划提上日程,开始反复讨论走什么路线,什么时候去,攻略怎样做?等等,诸如此类的问题,经过大半个月的讨论,我们一致决定走最负盛名的EBC珠峰大本营徒步路线。
    出发:对于这次出行,我们其实并没有什么经验,连低海拔地区的徒步经验都没有,更何况我们要去尼泊尔走EBC徒步路线,我们在相关论坛上发布了我们的计划之后,很多前辈都劝我们不要冒险,EBC虽然美丽,但是也充满了危险,于是我们很纠结,要不要去?向导怎么找?但对尼泊尔的向往,始终没有阻止我们的脚步,2017年5月28日,我们搭乘南方航空广州至加德满都的直飞航班出发了。
    初遇尼泊尔:带着好奇和满怀憧憬的期待,2017年5月28日下午我们抵达了尼泊尔的首都加德满都机场,之前在国内已经预定好了加德满都玛亚庄园酒店(Maya Manor Boutique Hotel Kathmandu),抵达机场后,酒店派了车去机场接迎接我们。第一次来到尼泊尔,汽车在公路上行驶着,路上汽车、行人、摩托车、牛都一起出现了公路上,这一刻,确实是让我们感到了吃惊,后来才知道,牛在尼泊尔中是神圣的,所以才会出现车和牛一起出现在公路上的情景。
    马亚酒店的初识:抵达酒店,我们询问了酒店的工作人员关于EBC旅行向导的一些事情,因为存在语言的差异,沟通起来稍有些不便,幸运的是,酒店的工作人员告诉我们,有一位中国女孩现在就在酒店工作,我们立即联系了她,她就是后来我们新认识的来自中国杭州的廉同学,廉同学一直在尼泊尔从事汉语教学的工作,帮助更多希望学习中文的尼泊尔人学习汉语。和廉同学联系上了之后,她正式像我们推荐了大卫(David)以及他的伙伴阿龙,很快我们和大卫还有阿龙在马亚酒店见面了,大卫的中文讲的很好,初次见面,我们就被大卫的热情所感动了,他非常细心的给我们介绍在尼泊尔旅行以及EBC徒步线路的一些事项,我们和大卫一起在马亚酒店吃了晚餐,制定好行程之后,我们将在第二天也就是5月29日正式从加德满都机场飞往EBC徒步的起点卢卡拉机场。
    向EBC出发:天气没有让我们失望,来尼泊尔之前,常常说此时是尼泊尔的雨季,可能天气会经常下雨,但是当我们从尼泊尔首都加德满都起飞时,天气确出奇的好,第一次坐上了传说中的小飞机,那是非常的兴奋,大概经过了一段时间,飞机很快的就降落在了海拔2700米的卢卡拉机场,说到这里,不得不提一下卢卡拉机场,卢卡拉机场(lukla Airport)位于尼泊尔东部卢卡拉(Lukla)镇,位列世界十大危险机场排名第一位,冠有“世界屋脊上的跑道”称号。机场是连接加德满都和卢卡拉的唯一通道,卢卡拉(丹增-希拉里)机场机场始建于1964年,登顶珠穆朗玛峰第一人埃德蒙·希拉里(Edmund Hillary)骑士自行集资兴建的。埃德蒙·希拉里骑士为了帮助登山者更快进入珠穆朗玛峰,同时回报当地的居民,改善当地的交通状况,兴建了卢卡拉机场。第一乘坐这样的飞机,让我们感到非常的刺激。
    踏上EBC:大卫帮我们制定了详细的EBC徒步线路,包括每天的具体行程,应该注意的事项,以及沿途需要停靠休息的点,因为我们是第一次在高海拔活动,所以有必要在不同海拔高度的地方停顿修整,以让身体来逐渐适应高海拔环境。我们从卢卡拉出发,一路经过Monjo/蒙佐、Namche/南池、Tengboche/腾波切、Dingboche/丁波切、Lobuche (4940m)/罗波切、Gorak Shep/格拉克舍普、Pheriche/佩里切等地方。其中我们在Namche/南池修整了一天,第二天一早我们起的很早,看到了火烧云的壮丽景观。随着海拔的不断上升,我们一路从茂密的植被区走到荒无人烟,没有一点绿色植物的高海拔地区,我们看到了安拉普尔那雪上,见识了尼泊尔高原地区最蓝的天空,晚上也看到了最迷人的星空,这些都是我们如今生活在大成里不曾见到过了,在那里,时间仿佛静止,一切的人间糟杂似乎都已经远去,那种状态,是空灵、是自身心灵的一种净化。最终我们在大卫的带领下来到了期盼已久的珠峰大本营,第一次零距离接触到了昆布冰川,那种感受无法形容,在感叹大自然神奇的同时,也对跨越昆布冰川也被称为死亡冰川像珠峰前进的珠峰攀登者们报以最诚挚的致敬,他们勇敢的挑战珠峰,尤其是夏尔巴向导们,他们就是珠峰的开路者。从珠峰返回后,我们又经过了三天的时间下撤到卢卡拉机场,然后从卢卡拉机场乘坐飞机返回加德满都.EBC的路途虽然辛苦,但是却是我一辈子都无法忘记的,我们走了大多数人可能这一辈子都不会走的线路,无憾。
